Biden-Harris DOJ spent at least $100 million in grants for schools to promote leftist ideology

There is little dispute that the Biden-Harris administration has wasted absurd amounts of taxpayer dollars on a broad range of leftist progressive policies, many of which are controversial and divisive in the view of most conservative and moderate Americans.

One particularly galling example is the revelation that Biden's Justice Department has spent at least $100 million over the past four years on grants for schools to promote things like "diversity, equity, and inclusion," so-called "restorative justice," and "social-emotional learning," according to Fox News.

The article noted that the actual monetary figure was likely much higher, due to limited data, and even more infuriating was a similar revelatory report last month about more than $1 billion wasted by the Biden-Harris Education Department on the same sort of leftist progressive propaganda.

Funding DEI, "restorative justice," and "social-emotional learning"

A right-leaning advocacy group known as Parents Defending Freedom released an investigative report on Thursday that exposed how the Biden-Harris DOJ distributed at least $100 million over the past four years in more than 100 grants to nearly 1,000 school districts in 36 states that had more than 3.2 million students collectively enrolled.

The one thing that all of those highlighted grants had in common was the promotion of leftist progressive ideals like DEI, restorative justice, and SEL, which most non-leftist parents oppose in a school setting.

Those figures were broken down to reveal at least 47 "general" grants totaling over $45 million that mentioned either "restorative practices or social-emotional learning," plus another 30 grants totaling more than $32 million that "discuss diversity, equity, or inclusion or explicitly explain how the project is intended to improve outcomes for a specific demographic group."

Further, there were 22 grants totaling nearly $20 million that were intended to fund certifications in the above areas or to hire consultants to teach the progressive propaganda to captive audience students, with many of those consultants often promoting "divisive concepts such as critical race theory, critical gender theory and queer theory," not to mention another 11 grants for around $10 million for districts to hire new administrative staff aligned with the above leftist ideals.

The PDE group noted that the actual figures for the number of grants and total expenditures were "likely much higher" given that they were based on partially available data as well as that some districts likely received multiple grants.

"Appalling," but "not surprising"

The Daily Wire was the first outlet to issue an exclusive report on the "woke" grants distributed by the Biden-Harris DOJ to school districts across the nation that had been highlighted by the PDE advocacy group.

Notably, the grants were issued through the DOJ's STOP School Violence Program and are ostensibly meant to "increase school safety by implementing solutions that will improve school climate."

PDE president Nicki Neily told the Daily Wire, "DOJ STOP grants were intended to be used to address and ameliorate school violence, which has been a major issue of concern to parents across the country over the past several years."

"It’s appalling, although not surprising, that DOJ bureaucrats would prioritize DEI initiatives over student safety," she added. "American families deserve better, and the sooner waste like this is eliminated, the better."

Prioritizing ideology over students

In a statement to Fox News, Neily said, "Although the Biden administration claimed they cared about 'student safety,' these grants highlight that at the end of the day, federal bureaucrats made a deliberate choice to prioritize ideology and pet projects over protecting American schoolchildren, using the tax dollars of hardworking citizens."

The outlet reached out to the DOJ for comment on the PDE report but did not receive a response.
