President Joe Biden is either totally out of his mind or made a glaring, awkward mistake this week at a function where he chatted with firefighters in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. 

According to the Daily Mail, the internet was set ablaze when pictures and video emerged of Biden sporting a red cap that read "Trump 2024" at the event.

While the White House officially described the moment as a show of "bipartisan unity," many also claimed that Biden simply didn't realize what he was doing at the moment and was confused, which certainly isn't a stretch.

Regardless, Biden was widely mocked across social media over the bizarre moment.

What happened?

Video footage of the moment quickly spread across social media, with many different opinions as to what Biden was thinking in the moment he sported the Trump cap.

Laura Loomer and others suggested that Biden had a deeply senile moment.

"Attendees tell me Joe Biden appeared totally senile at the event, and he even put a Red TRUMP 2024 hat on while [Harris] was in the room,' wrote Laura Loomer. "One of the attendees asked Biden, 'do you even know what your name is?'"

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates had a wildly different take on the situation, claiming Biden wanted to show some form of unity.

"At the Shanksville Fire Station, President Joe Biden spoke about the country's bipartisan unity after 9/11 and said we needed to get back to that," Bates wrote on X. He added, "As a gesture, he gave a hat to a Trump supporter who then said that in the same spirit, POTUS should put on his Trump cap."

Social media reacts

Other social media users suggested that Biden wore the hat as a knock on Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced him on the 2024 Democratic ticket.

"This is probably the wildest thing I’ve seen in 2024. Maybe Biden does actually hate Kamala," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Not me! But, Trump did! He was right again… Joe dislikes Comrade Harris the marxist so much so that he’s now endorsing Trump…"

Who knows what the real story is on this one, but with Biden's cognitive decline and inability to read a room, it's not out of the question that he didn't know what he was doing in that particular moment. Whoops.
