Biden tells DNC reception crowd that 'MAGA Republicans' are 'real problem'

President Joe Biden is famous for cringeworthy utterances, but it only took two words from his mouth on Friday to reveal just how foolish his current take on the state of the union truly is, particularly considering recent polling on his own job approval rating, as Fox News reports.

Appearing at a reception for the Democratic National Committee, Biden held forth on topics ranging from his own supposed accomplishments and the election battle ahead and declared “those MAGA Republicans” to be the real obstacle to progress.

Biden's boasting

The president regaled the assembled crowd with tales of his purportedly impressive record as commander in chief, saying, “we've already accomplished a lot after being told we wouldn't be able to get anything done – remember? – in 2020. It was going to be a – it was going to be just a freeze on everything.”

He went on to list what he views as his administration's signature achievements, including the CHIPS and Science Act, the American Rescue Plan, gun reform legislation, the bipartisan infrastructure bill, and the Inflation Reduction Act.

“We kept our promise to put the first Black woman on the Supreme Court,” Biden added, referring to the addition of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Attempting to contrast his leadership with that of his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, Biden asserted, “In short, we restored America's standing on the world stage.”

Words of warning

Biden cautioned, however, that all of the aforementioned achievements are in jeopardy due to people he described as “MAGA Republicans,” who he says are “trying to take us backwards.”

Striking a defiant tone, Biden continued, “But together, we're not going to let them do it. Not an inch back. Instead, our agenda is going to continue to bring us forward and build on the progress we made. And we must finish this job.”

Specifically, Biden suggested, “Let's keep growing the economy from the middle out and the bottom up. Let's protect a woman's right to choose and codify Roe v. Wade. Let's protect our children from gun violence by continuing to work to eliminate assault weapons. And let's keep lowering the prescription drug cost not just for those on Medicare, but for all Americans.”

Standing in the way of all that, according to the president, is “the real problem” of the “MAGA Republicans,” a group he said represents “30 percent of the Republican Party” and who are “not your father's Republican Party.”

Polling tells another story

Despite Biden's apparent confidence and pride in his what he has brought about as commander in chief, his remarks came on the heels of a new Gallup poll showing his job approval rating sitting at the lowest point in his presidency – 37% overall.

Perhaps most alarming to those running Biden's recently announced reelection campaign is the poll's finding that just 31% of the all-important independent voting contingent indicated approval of the job the president has done.

The state of the economy appears to be playing a sizable role in Biden's decline, with only 16% of respondents calling conditions “excellent” or “good” and 47% describing them as “poor.”

While decrying the outrages of the MAGA movement, the president should perhaps take note that its leader is currently pulling way ahead of his closest potential competitor for the GOP nomination, making it all the more likely that Biden will find himself in a rematch of the 2020 contest – only this time, he will have a highly problematic record to defend in front of a clearly skeptical electorate.
