Bill Clinton comes to Biden's defense

Former President Bill Clinton just came to the defense of President Joe Biden.

Clinton did so, according to The Hill, after Biden's poor performance in the first presidential debate against former President Donald Trump.

On Friday, Clinton came to Biden's defense in a message that he posted to his X account.

"Here's what I know . . ."

Clinton, in his message, made no attempt to defend Biden's debate performance.

"I'll leave the debate rating to the pundits," he said.

Instead, the former president seemed to suggest that Americans ought to just forget about the debate and to vote for Biden based on what he has done as president.

"Here’s what I know," Clinton continued, "facts and history matter. Joe Biden has given us 3 years of solid leadership, steadying us after the pandemic, creating a record number of new jobs, making real progress solving the climate crisis, and launching a successful effort in reducing inflation, all while pulling us out of the quagmire Donald Trump left us in."

"That’s what’s really at stake in November," Clinton claimed.

Circling the wagons

Clinton is now the second former president to come to the defense of Biden, trying to claim that Americans simply ought to overlook Biden's poor performance. The other was former President Barack Obama.

Obama, in his own X message, claimed that Biden just had a "bad" night.

"Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know," Obama began.

Then, he, like Clinton, went on to claim that Americans ought to overlook this "bad debate night," writing:

But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November.

Despite Obama and Clinton's efforts, however, it still appears, at the time of this writing, as if there is a sizeable contingent of the Democratic Party, including major players in news media, that want Biden to be removed from the Democrats' 2024 presidential ticket and replaced with a different candidate.
