Obama strategist says Biden replacement talk is 'irrelevant'

David Axelrod - the Barack Obama-linked Democratic strategist - says that the ongoing discussions about replacing President Joe Biden on the Democrats' presidential ticket are "irrelevant."

Why? Because, in his view, it is too late.

Axelrod, according to The Hill, weighed in on the situation in a message that he posted to his X account on Saturday.

This came a couple of days after Biden's disastrous debate performance, which is what has led to widespread calls - from the Democrats - to replace Biden.

"Reality check"

In his message, Axelrod said that Biden replacement talk may have been "timely" about a year ago, but not it is too late and the Democrats are stuck with Biden.

"Reality check: @JoeBiden is the nominee of the Democratic Party, nominated by voters in primaries across the country. Unless the @POTUS, himself, decides to quit — which he won’t — that issue is settled," he wrote.

Axelrod added, "The discussion that is going on now was timely a year ago, when few wanted to have it. It’s largely irrelevant today."

For those unfamiliar with Axelrod, he was the chief political strategist for former President Barack Obama's presidential campaigns. More recently, he has been making numerous appearances on news programs.

To give you a better idea about Axelrod, after Thursday's presidential debate, he actually claimed that, despite Biden's poor performance, it is still not clear that Trump will win the election because Trump "is not a guy who’s going to inspire people."

Obama himself speaks

Obama is among those Democrats who are trying to push back against the other Democrats who are calling for Biden to be replaced. Obama's strategy is to claim that Biden simply had a bad night and that this shouldn't define Biden.

"Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself," Obama wrote.

He added, "Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November."

Many on the left, however, are not buying what Obama and others are selling and continue to call for Biden to be replaced.

Which Democrat faction will win remains to be seen.
