The world of Broadway plays took a hit this week after one of the well-known stars in the business passed away at age 40.

According to Breitbart, Broadway actor Chris Peluso died Tuesday, "just one year after it was announced he was taking a break from acting to seek treatment for schizoaffective disorder."

A cause of death was not revealed at the time of this writing. Peluso's family confirmed his death last week to USA Today.

Peluso, a rising star, was known as a "famed understudy," someone who prepares and learns roles to step into a role at a later date to replace the main star.

Impressive resume

Peluso notched a number of his shows under his belt, being most known for his roles in "Mamma Mia," and "Wicked."

Breitbart noted:

Peluso covered The Balladeer in the Tony-winning revival of the Assassins, Louis and Nicolas in Elton John’s Lestat, as well as Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann, and Don Kirshner, the three leading male roles, in Beautiful The Carole King Musical.

Peluso previously lived in London, where he was also very popular on the play-acting scene. He starred in a number of big shows and made a name for himself.

Given his popularity in the business, tributes poured in across social media, with fans and former colleagues praising his deep talent in the industry.

Peluso remembered fondly

"So sad to hear of the passing of the talented and kind Chris Peluso. I didn’t know Chris well but all my Show Boat friends that worked with him LOVED him dearly. My thoughts go out to his family, close friends and wife and child. Such sad news," one X user wrote.

Clearly, Peluso touched many lives and made a mark on the Broadway scene, a legacy of which his family and friends can be proud.

He's survived by wife Jessica Gomes and their two children, Aria Li Gomes-Peluso and Caio Lian Gomes-Peluso.
