The man accused of killing Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, confessed to the crime over Discord after trolling friends about his "doppelganger" being on the loose.

Hours before he turned himself in Thursday night, Robinson told a Discord chat with 20 people that his lookalike was trying to get him "in trouble," the New York Times reported.

Robinson's confession

As FBI images of Robinson started being widely publicized, his friends jokingly asked for his whereabouts and suggested turning him in for the $100,000 reward, leading Robinson to reply, “Only if I get a cut."

Robinson - who has a transgender boyfriend - also joked about reports that the ammunition left at the scene had engravings referencing transgender ideology. The bullet casings reportedly had anti-fascist inscriptions and a reference to the "furry" subculture, which centers on a sexual interest in anthropomorphic animals.

“I heard the ammo had somethin about trans stuff on it, but they aren’t releasing photos or exact quotes,” Robinson wrote.

The suspect's mood shifted about 2 hours before he surrendered to police.

“Hey guys, I have bad news for you all,” Robinson wrote, according to the Washington Post. "It was me at UVU yesterday. i’m sorry for all of this," he said.

One of the people in the chat compared Robinson to Luigi Mangione, who became a left-wing idol after he was charged with murdering health insurance executive Brian Thompson last year. Kirk's assassination has also been celebrated by the left, leading to some people getting fired for glorifying political violence.

"Whatever you do, don’t go to a mcdonalds anytime soon,” one of Robinson's friends said, referring to where police found Mangione.

Leftist conspiracy?

While Robinson is the only person facing charges at this time, there is speculation of a wider leftist conspiracy to assassinate Kirk, who was one of the most famous conservative public figures in America.

The FBI is looking into transgender groups and people in Robinson's life who may have had foreknowledge of the crime, according to reports.

Robinson told someone over text that he planned to murder Kirk, FBI director Kash Patel told Fox News on Monday.

“He had a text message exchange with another individual in which he claimed that he had an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk — and he was going to do it because of his hatred for what Charlie stood for,” Patel told Fox & Friends.

People on the left, including some Democrats in Congress, have been spreading disinformation painting Robinson as a Republican, without evidence.

“His family has collectively told investigators that he subscribed to left-wing ideology and even more so in these last couple of years,” Patel said.
