Chuck Schumer furious that Trump may pardon J6 rioters
Chuck Schumer is fuming right now, and the reason why can be attributed to none other than the head of MAGA himself, Donald Trump.
Donald Trump is planning to pardon those who participated in the riots on January 6, 2021, and Chuck Schumer is NOT happy about it.
The Washington Examiner is reporting that Schumer is so upset about the potential pardons that he even recently ranted about it on the Senate floor.
"Shamefully, utterly outrageous"
Chuck Schumer made his remarks just before Donald Trump's win in the 2024 Presidential Election was certified.
Schumer said that allowing Trump to pardon these people would set a bad example to future lawbreakers. Despite their actions being fueled by political passion and love for their country, these people still broke the law.
Chuck Schumer wants to see them punished, not pardoned.
"It is shamefully, utterly outrageous that the president is considering pardons for these rioters who broke the law and attacked our police officers on Jan. 6," Schumer said. "Pardoning the criminals who assaulted police officers and tried to halt the democratic process would be a dangerous endorsement of political violence."
"It would send a message to the country and to the world that those who use force to get their way will not be punished," he continued. "It is wrong, it is reckless, and it would be an insult to the memory of those who died in connection that day."
Four Years Later
Schumer's speech came four years after Trump supporters mobbed the Capitol after Donald Trump claimed that the 2020 Presidential Election had been stolen.
To this day, liberals still want to hold Trump responsible for inciting violence on that day.
He did it by spending part of his speaking time focusing on the lives of law enforcement officers that were lost that day.
"On that day, our Capitol Police faced their hour of maximum danger, but they responded with maximum valor," Schumer said. "Outnumbered and overwhelmed, the Capitol Police and all our first responders became the defenders of our democracy. Today, we honor all the members of the Capitol Police, the D.C. police, our service members, and all first responders who kept us safe four years ago, as well as everyone who has kept us safe since."
"We mourn the brave officers who died in the days and weeks and months after the attack, we pray for their families that they find comfort and grace," Schumer added. "On this, the four-year anniversary of the Capitol attack, the only obstruction we will see is the obstruction coming from the storm. Even then, Mother Nature will not be able to stop us from doing our jobs today."
Who do you agree with on this issue?
These rioters most certainly broke the law, but should they be forgiven if it was for a good cause?
We'll have to see what Donald Trump ends up officially doing.
