Confusion persists over use of live microphones during Trump/Harris debate

Most observers agree that former President Donald Trump scored a major victory over President Joe Biden during their televised debate earlier this year.

While Trump is now scheduled to square off against Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10, the debate may be halted by a dispute over the rules.

Senior Trump adviser: "Enough with the games"

According to Breitbart, the point of contention is whether or not a candidate's microphone will be muted while the other is speaking.

The muting policy was in effect during Trump's debate with Biden on CNN, with both men agreeing that it would also be implemented during their second debate.

However, Harris has since replaced Biden as the Democratic Party's nominee, and she is now insisting that both microphones remain on for the duration of their upcoming debate which is to be hosted by ABC.

Senior Trump adviser Jason Miller commented on the situation when speaking with Politico Playbook this past weekend, saying, "Enough with the games. We accepted the ABC debate under the exact same terms as the CNN debate."

"The Harris camp, after having already agreed to the CNN rules, asked for a seated debate, with notes, and opening statements. We said no changes to the agreed upon rules," he continued.

Trump says he and Harris have reached an agreement

"If Kamala Harris isn’t smart enough to repeat the messaging points her handlers want her to memorize, that’s their problem," Miller insisted.

"This seems to be a pattern for the Harris campaign. They won't allow Harris to do interviews, they won’t allow her to do press conferences, and now they want to give her a cheat-sheet for the debate," he alleged.

CNN noted that Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday that he has "reached an agreement with the Radical Left Democrats for a Debate with Comrade Kamala Harris."

The former president declared that the debate parameters "will be the same as the last CNN debate, which seemed to work out well for everyone."

Harris campaign statement raises doubts

Yet the cable news network also cited a statement provided to it by the Harris campaign which appeared to indicate that no such arrangement has been reached.

"Both candidates have publicly made clear their willingness to debate with unmuted mics for the duration of the debate to fully allow for substantive exchanges between the candidates - but it appears Donald Trump is letting his handlers overrule him. Sad!" it read.
