Democrats could be experiencing trouble in their paradise lost, as Republicans are poised to take over control of both houses of Congress and the White House in Jan. 2025.

However, The New York Post reported that at least some of the leadership appears to be trying to maintain a united front, assuring the world that there aren't rifts in their management.

In an interview with NBC's Kristen Welker, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that he does not have any problems with Nancy Pelosi, who had previously served as Speaker of the House.

Jeffries also stated that he does not believe that Pelosi is trying to undermine him with her comments regarding the election.

Jeffries Comments

“I think Speaker Emerita Pelosi has been incredibly respectful of the entire leadership team. It’s an honor to stand on the shoulders of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, an incredibly consequential public servant in the history of America,” the Democrat said on “Meet the Press" Sunday.

If the Democrats had been successful in gaining a majority in the House, Jeffries would have been in a position to become the first Black person to hold the position of Speaker of the House.

When he was asked if he believed that Pelosi was undermining his leadership with her public remarks, he responded with a resounding "No."

“House Democrats, we’re proud of the new leadership team. We’re looking forward to confronting the challenges we have to face on the behalf of the American people,” he added.

Differing Opinions

It was reported by Axios on Friday that some Democrats believe that Pelosi, who resigned from her leadership position following the elections in 2022, ought to step aside in order to assist Jeffries in leading the caucus.

Pelosi made this statement in response to an interview that she gave to the New York Times, in which she claimed that President Joe Biden ought to have removed himself from the campaign earlier.

Jeffries managed to avoid answering the same question by supporting Biden's decision to withdraw from the race.

On Pelosi's Influence

“I think that President Biden will go down in history as one of the most consequential presidents of all time and I was thankful for all the work we were able to do together," Jeffries said on the topic.

"He did make the decision — it was a selfless decision — to pass the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris and she ran with it and did the best job she could under incredibly challenging circumstances and a little over 100 days,” he said. “She came close, but we fell short.”

Democrats have secured 212 House seats for the upcoming Congress, while Republicans have secured 218. Five seats are still undecided.
