Democrats might not be able to replace Joe

It appears that the Democrats might just be stuck with President Joe Biden as their 2024 presidential nominee, and it is not for the reason that you might think.

According to the Daily Mail, if the Democrats do try to replace Biden, there is a plan in place that could stop Biden's replacement from making the general election ballot in three important swing states.

The swing states are Georgia, Nevada, and Wisconsin.

The plan has been revealed by Mike Howell, the Executive Director of The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project.

The details

According to Howell, he and his organization are getting ready to take action should Democrats try to replace Biden on the Democratic ticket.

He said:

We are monitoring the calls from across the country for President Biden to step aside, either now or before the election, and have concluded that the process for substitution and withdrawal is very complicated. We will remain vigilant that appropriate election integrity procedures are followed.

There are some important details about Georgia's, Nevada's, and Wisconsin's election laws that could stop a Biden replacement from making their general election ballots.

"Wisconsin does not allow withdrawal from the ballot for any reason besides death," the Daily Mail reports. It adds, "In Nevada, no changes can be made to the ballot after 5 p.m. on the fourth Friday in June of an election year or 'a nominee dies or is adjudicated insane or mentally incompetent.'"

Finally, the outlet reports, "If Biden were to withdraw less than 60 days before the election Georgia his name will remain on the ballot but no votes will be counted."

What now?

To be clear, this report from the Daily Mail was published before the recently held presidential debate. But, it was published based on the idea that a really bad debate performance could lead Democrats to try to replace Biden.

This, of course, is exactly what has happened.

At the time of this writing, Biden is trying to ward off replacement calls - with the help of former President Barack Obama. They are now trying to claim that Biden simply had a bad night and that this night ought not to define him.

But, it has become very clear that not all Democrats agree. Biden, in fact, appears to have lost the support of many of his most ardent supporters in the mainstream media.

It remains to be seen how this will all play out. It is an extremely complicated situation, but we should get some clarity about how the Democrats are going to handle it in the coming weeks.
