Florida governor Ron DeSantis (R) was in a car accident Tuesday while campaigning in Tennessee, but the Republican presidential candidate is doing fine.

The accident happened after 8 a.m. outside Chattanooga and involved multiple cars in the governor's motorcade

“We appreciate the prayers and well wishes of the nation for his continued protection while on the campaign trail,” spokesperson Bryan Griffin said in a statement.

The motorcade was traveling south on Interstate 75 to a fundraiser in Chattanooga. DeSantis proceeded to the event after the crash.

DeSantis in car accident

The crash happened when traffic slowed down, causing a chain reaction as the lead car suddenly hit the brakes. All of the cars involved in the incident were government vehicles in DeSantis' motorcade, the police said. The governor was not hurt.

"The motorcade came up on slow traffic, and the lead vehicle had to brake quickly, which caused a rear-end collision involving the other vehicles," the police said. "All the vehicles involved were government vehicles accompanying Gov. DeSantis and his team to his scheduled event."

A female aide received minor injuries and was treated.

Trump adviser Jason Miller shared an article, titled "DeSantis campaign crashes into reality," that appeared to make light of the crash.

Campaign reset

DeSantis is attempting a campaign reset following a turbulent launch that has left him struggling in the polls and burning through campaign cash, forcing his operation to downsize by a third.

There are signs donors are getting cold feet after the governor raised $20 million and spent $8 million of it.

“Following a top-to-bottom review of our organization, we have taken additional, aggressive steps to streamline operations and put Ron DeSantis in the strongest position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden,” DeSantis campaign manager Generra Peck said in a statement.

“Gov. DeSantis is going to lead the Great American Comeback and we’re ready to hit the ground running as we head into an important month of the campaign,” Peck said.

The governor's critics say he hasn't been aggressive enough about confronting GOP frontrunner President Trump, who continues to command the loyalty of millions of Republican voters.
