DNC paid millions of dollars to law firms targeting Donald Trump

Allies of former President Donald Trump have long alleged that his legal problems are the result of politically motivated lawfare.

While left-wing critics have dismissed that contention, a newly exposed money trail appears to destroy any doubt.

DNC paid millions of dollars to firm representing E. Jean Carroll

According to the Daily Caller, Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings made by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) show it paying $2 million since August of 2021 to a law firm known as Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP for "legal services."

That is significant as the firm was founded by Roberta Kaplan, who represented author E. Jean Carroll in her sexual assault and defamation lawsuits against Trump.

What's more, Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP's website touts the fact that partner Joshua Matz provided assistance in Carroll's case.

He also "took leave from the firm to serve as counsel to the House Judiciary Committee for the first impeachment and trial of President Trump."

Matz again took leave in 2021 to help Democrats prosecute Trump's second impeachment, with Harvard Law School Professor Laurence Tribe calling him "the backbone of the legal efforts behind both impeachments."

More money given to firm that filed anti-Trump amicus briefs

Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP is not the only left-leaning law firm that the DNC has rewarded, as FEC records show it paid millions more to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP.

The Daily Caller noted that Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP has filed multiple pro-prosecution amicus briefs in United States v. Donald Trump.

The website further pointed out how some of those who worked at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr went on to hold prominent roles in the Biden administration.

Among them are Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar. Meanwhile, former Special Counsel Robert Mueller was employed by the firm as well.

Trump adviser: DNC is paying for "election interference"

Mike Davis is founder and president of the Article III Project as well as a legal adviser to Trump, and he told the Daily Caller that the revelations are damning.

"There is now clear and explosive evidence that the Biden DNC is paying Democrat law firms to engage in this unprecedented lawfare and election interference against President Trump," Davis was quoted as saying.

They also cast doubt on a claim made earlier this spring  by DNC spokesperson Alex Floyd to ABC News. He insisted that "the DNC does not spend a single penny of grassroots donors' money on legal bills."

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
