Following the loss of Vice President Kamala Harris, Democratic National Committee employees are seeking charitable donations due to layoffs resulting in the termination of 66% of staffers, as Fox News reported.

On social media, donation requests drew criticism due to the $1 billion Kamala Harris campaign spending spree, which included celebrity-filled town halls for the vice president.

The union reported that two-thirds of DNC employees were laid off on Wednesday with one day's notice and no severance:

"These cuts go far beyond typical campaign turnover and impact employees who were previously told their positions would be retained after the election," the statement from the union protesting the layoffs read.

From the Union

"We want to be clear: the funds raised from this GoFundMe are not a replacement for the severance we are still fighting for on behalf of our colleagues," the message read.

DNC officials informed reporters that the party had complied with the collective bargaining agreement, and they emphasized that the layoffs were a normal part of the downsizing that occurs after elections.

"Every cycle, political organizations scale up to meet the demands, and as the cycle comes to a close, it's a tough reality of our industry that we must part with talented, hardworking staff," a DNC spokesperson said in a statement.

The union vowed to keep pushing for the party to pay compensation to the laid-off workers: "We want to be clear: the funds raised from this GoFundMe are not a replacement for the severance we are still fighting for on behalf of our colleagues," the message read.

The announcement of the fundraising event sparked outrage on various social media platforms.

"Just look how they treated their own staff! Thank God Harris didn't win," wrote X user "Audie."

X user "Americat" wrote, "This shows the typical Democrat mismanagement of funds and broken promises."

Harris' Response to The Crisis

Others brought up the fact that Harris was on an extended Hawaiian vacation while her employees were let go.

"Wow. Great job, Kamala. We all hope you’re enjoying your Hawaiian getaway," X user Brian wrote.

While other users placed the blame on the union for the employee's current plight: "I feel sorry for the people laid off but this is hilarious. A union of the DNC is reduced to having a GoFundMe page for the people they laid off???" wrote user @OldBabyBoomer1.

There were others who thought famous people who support Democrats financially should chip in to cover the staff's expenses: "Hey ask Oprah, Clooney, Beyoncé, for $$," wrote Judith Drew.
