Democrats and former President Donald Trump's critics have spent months pecking at Trump over the absence of Melania Trump on the campaign trail.

In a recent interview at Mar-a-Lago with the Daily Mail, Trump, who features many of his family members within his tight political circle and campaign, was asked about seeing his wife and even his youngest son, Barron Trump, on the campaign trail leading up to the November election.

Trump candidly explained why it has become more difficult for him to feel comfortable with certain members of his family out there in the wake of nearly being assassinated in July at a Pennsylvania rally.

The former president highlighted how it's much more dangerous for him and his family on the trail than it is for Democrats.

What did he say?

When questioned about whether or not Melania Trump would be seen more on the campaign trail in the coming months, the former president provided a clear and understandable answer.

"Well, I would like to. It's not a question of that. It's a nasty world for me," Trump said.

He added, "'It's not nasty for Democrats like it is for me. And I would like to have my family not have to go out there and go in front of some of the things that you know happen."

Trump also bragged on Barron, his youngest son, now 18, and the influence he's had on the campaign, including pushing his father to get more involved with young, popular online influencers.

"He knows so much about it," said Trump, referring to Barron's knowledge of the influencer scene. "Adin Ross, you know, I mean, I do some people that I wasn't so familiar with, different generation. He knows every one of them. And we've had tremendous success."

The former president added, "He actually calls all of them like friends of his, because it's a different generation. They don't grow up watching television the same way as we did. They grow up looking at the Internet or watching a computer, right?"

Melania questionable

While he didn't provide a clear answer on when and if his wife would join him, the few times she has, she's received massive support from his own supporters.

The Daily Mail noted:

Melania has picked her moments carefully. She received a thunderous reception at the party convention in Milwaukee and issued a public statement in the wake of the attempt on her husband's life, calling on people to remember that love was worth more than political differences.

Any person in their right mind, especially a husband who happens to be a perpetual target of the radical left, would worry about his family being with him too much in such a dangerous time.

Unfortunately, that won't stop his haters from picking on him about it, but on the other hand, he certainly won't lose sleep as a result.
