Emails show Biden DOJ sought to charge Trump with as many crimes as possible after January 6

Last month, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley obtained a trove of internal FBI emails that were sent in 2023.

The leaked communications show that officials were looking to charge President Donald Trump with as many crimes as possible, including over his involvement with a choir.

Choir was made up of January 6 defendants who were locked up in D.C. jail

Grassley provided the emails to New York Post contributor Miranda Devine and she cited excerpts from them in an article published on Wednesday.

They include messages from prosecutor J.P. Cooney, who discussed whether criminal charges could be brought against Trump in connection with the J6 Choir.

The choir was made up of individuals who were being held at the D.C. Central Detention Facility over their alleged role in the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

Its members were recorded singing the Star Spangled Banner, with Trump playing the recording at many of his campaign rallies.

Cooney's email referenced future FBI Director Kash Patel

"Can we do some work to nail down Trump's role in this," Cooney wrote in a March 8, 2023 email that bore a subject line which read "J6 Prisoner Choir/DJT."

Cooney also included a Forbes magazine article that was titled, "Trump Collaborates On Song With Jan. 6 Defendants."

"According to this Forbes article, Trump recorded the Pledge of Allegiance at MAL [Mar a Lago] and Kash Patel [now FBI director] and Ed Henry [a former Fox News host] were also involved," the prosecutor noted.

"The profits are routed to an LLC run by Henry, and proceeds are intended for families of incarcerated J6 defendants — but there is apparently a vetting process that excludes families of defendants who assaulted police officers," Cooney continued.

"I asked Ahmed [likely prosecutor Ahmed Baset, who was fired earlier this month] to preserve this last night. I'll talk to Maria/Erin and Julia about doing some follow up here to nail down Trump’s role," he added.

FBI agent pledged to examine Forbes article for potentially incriminating details

Cooney forwarded the email to a number of DOJ staff members along with eight FBI agents, including Special Agent Walter Giardina.

Giardina responded two days later with a message in which he spoke of looking into what the Forbes article said about Trump and the J6 Choir.

"Esther and I are working on this today. We’re going to put together our findings at 2 and get something to you shortly after that," he was quoted as stating.
