Florida Republican supports using spending rule to fire FBI director
FBI Director Christopher Wray has received significant criticism over his refusal to help House Republicans investigate alleged bribery by President Joe Biden. Some now say it's time for him to be thrown out.
Breitbart reported this week that one of those calling for Wray's removal is Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.
Holman Rule allows for federal positions to be eliminated
According to the website, Luna suggested during an appearance on Fox News that lawmakers should invoke the Holman Rule.
It permits them to attach an amendment to an appropriations bill that cuts the salary for specific government employees or abolishes their position altogether.
"The FBI’s playing games. As you know, even if we do a contempt of Congress, likely, the DOJ would not actually hold the FBI director accountable," Luna told host Jesse Watters on Wednesday.
"But what we can do as Congress is officially defund the director’s position, and that’s something we’re also looking at doing, via the Holman rule," she continued, adding, "That means we’ve effectively eliminated his salary, and thus, his position, yes."
It’s time for the @FBI Director to realize that we’re not going to play his games any longer.
We have the authority to eliminate his salary & thus his position.🔥 pic.twitter.com/ST9Q4BlVao

Luna seeks to fine Adam Schiff
What's more, Wray is not the only Washington figure that Luna has proposed taking action against as she has also targeted California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff.
The Florida Republican put forward a resolution last month to censure Schiff and fine him $16 million in retaliation for his promotion of the since-debunked conspiracy theory that former President Donald Trump colluded with Russian to win the 2016 presidential election.
"The GOP Conference agrees that Adam Schiff has betrayed the trust of the American people, purposely abused positions of extreme authority, lied continuously, and as such, must be held to account," Fox News quoted Luna as saying.
"Accordingly, the resolution requires Rep. Schiff to pay a $16 million dollar fine, half of the cost American taxpayers were forced to pay for the Russia hoax investigation," she added.
Luna will reintroduce the resolution after the failed vote
Breitbart noted that Luna's resolution failed on Wednesday after 20 members of her own party joined with Democrats in voting against it.
However, she immediately pledged to introduce another version of it next week that will eliminate any "confusion" over what it stands for.
20 Republicans voted w/ Dems to stop the ethics investigation, censure, & fine of Adam Schiff.
So there is no confusion (as some did not accurately read the bill) I will be filing a privileged motion to censure & send Schiff to ethics for investigation.
See you next week Adam.
