The Washington Examiner reported late last week that former cryptocurrency tycoon and Biden donor Sam Bankman-Fried was taken to jail.

According to the paper, Bankman-Fried's arrest came on Friday after U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan revoked his bail.

Bankman-Fried accused of witness intimidation

That move came in response to allegations that Bankman-Fried had engaged in witness intimidation directed towards former girlfriend Caroline Ellison.

Fox Business noted that Kaplan found Bankman-Fried attempted to "hurt and frighten" Ellison by sharing her personal writings with a New York Times reporter, something the judge said had "crossed the line."

Ellison previously served as CEO of Alameda Research, a hedge fund which was linked to Bankman-Fried's cryptocurrency trading platform known as FTX. Ellison has been cooperating with federal authorities and is expected to testify against him.

For their part, Bankman-Fried's attorneys issued a statement on Friday in which they insisted that the former billionaire's actions had been misconstrued.

Indictment includes campaign finance charges

"In support of its theory that Mr. Bankman-Fried 'tampered' with witnesses, the Government proffers evidence that consists of innuendo, speculation and scant facts," Fox Business quoted the statement as reading.

"The Government’s showing is a far cry from the evidence presented in cases in this district where remand has been ordered in connection with alleged witness tampering, and in no way supports revocation of Mr. Bankman-Fried’s bail," it added.

In addition to accusations that he defrauded investors, Breitbart reported last year that Bankman-Fried had also been indicted on campaign finance violations.

Specifically, the indictment asserted that "the defendant, and others known and unknown, would and did knowingly and willfully make contributions to candidates for federal office and joint fundraising committees by a corporation, aggregating to $25,000 : and more in a calendar year, in violation of Title 52, United states Code, Sections 30118 and 30103(d) (1) (3)."

Bankman-Fried was 2022's second-largest Democratic donor

What's more, Fox News reported just after last year's midterm elections that FTX Bankman-Fried and his family were major donors to Democratic causes.

In fact, he was the second-largest contributor to Democratic-affiliated political action committees (PACs) and organizations in 2022, trailing only far-left billionaire George Soros.

This included providing $27 million to the Protect Our Future PAC, which aimed to elect Democratic candidates. He also made donations to the House Majority PAC, which is connected to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as well as the Chuck Schumer-aligned Senate Majority PAC.
