Gov. Newsom said he was 'told' to say Harris' nomination was 'open' and 'inclusive'

The party that cried "Democracy is under attack!" for years seemed to forget all about democracy with regard to how it selected its presidential nominee.

Many on the left are still upset that the party essentially staged a coup against President Joe Biden and immediately coronated Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee.

Party leaders and influencers have all said the process was "open" and "inclusive," even though it's not.

According to Breitbart, California Gov. Gavin Newsom might have let a party secret slip during a recent podcast when he said he was "told" to say those very phrases.

What did he say?

Newsom might have messed up during a recent interview on the "Pod Save America" podcast when speaking about Harris being elevated to the Democratic Party's presidential nominee seemingly overnight, even though she was grossly unpopular the day before.

"We went through a very open process, a very inclusive process. It was bottom-up, I don’t know if you know that. That’s what I’ve been told to say," Newsom said on the podcast.

Breitbart accurately explained why that's an outright lie:

The so-called “democratic” party did not go through a democratic process. Democrat party leaders coronated Harris, who received zero Democrat primary votes, nullifying about 14 million primary votes cast for President Joe Biden. Harris officially accepted her party’s nomination Thursday.

Others slammed the California governor for making such a claim, including independent journalist Glenn Greenwald.

"The Party of Democracy sits around guffawing at how anti-democratic and vote-free and secret was their process for choosing and then imposing the new Democratic presidential nominee on the country," Greenwald said.

Another critic of the process said, "Gavin Newsom knows the Harris nomination was a top-down coup, and they’re all cynical about it. Is this the ‘democracy’ they want to save? What a sick joke on their own supporters and this country."

More critics

Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel CEO Dumisani Washington weighed in on X, slamming the party for "screwing over the voters."

The first real test of Harris' ability to remain in the fight will come in September when she debates former President Donald Trump.

The last guy who debated him and lost horrendously was quickly shown the door.
