Kamala Harris, the current vice president of the United States, apparently does not know the Pledge of Allegiance as well as she should. 

The New York Post reports that Harris "botched the Pledge of Allegiance" on Friday.

"I pledge allegiance to the...'

The above video shows Harris stumbling over the words of the Pledge of Allegiance. This came on Friday as the U.S. Senate was sworn in for the 199th Congress. Harris was leading the swearing-in ceremony, under her vice presidential role.

Right off the bat, Harris omitted words from the pledge.

She said: "I pledge allegiance to the United States of America."

The full pledge, of course, goes like this: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Harris, therefore, left out the words "to the flag."

The Post reports:

In a video clip of the major blunder, senators could be heard reciting the pledge correctly and Harris, 60, seemed to doubleback, repeating the words, “United States of America” after hearing members of the upper chamber correctly say, “to the flag of” as she flubbed the line.

How is this possible?!

Many have taken to social media to express dismay at the fact that the sitting Vice President of the United States - the woman who is extremely close to the becoming the next president - could not know the Pledge of Allegiance.

One user wrote:

HOLY SMOKES. Kamala just screwed up the pledge of allegiance on the Senate floor. What an embarrassment to this country. Tens of millions of Democrats voted for this woman to be president just weeks ago…

Others emphasized how embarrassing this is for America. Comedian Terrance Williams, for example, said:

Kamala Harris doesn't know the Pledge Of Allegiance This woman really wanted to be President! It’s actually an embarrassing that the Vice President doesn’t know the Pledge of Allegiance

For others, this failure by Harris solidified their belief that President-Elect Donald Trump was correctly chosen in the 2024 presidential election.

Harris, for her part, has not, at the time of this writing, released a statement on the matter.
