Fox News reported on Wednesday that House Speaker Mike Johnson offered a vote on a border security bill as a way to placate Republicans upset over bills that provide $95 billion in aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan.

Yet in a sign that Johnson's speakership has grown increasingly chaotic, members of the House Freedom Caucus derailed the vote later that evening.

"Sick of hearing about Ukraine being so needy"

"Sorry, not sorry, for opposing a cr---y rule that is a show vote [and/or] cover vote for funding Ukraine instead of border security," Fox News quoted Texas Republican Chip Roy as saying.

Others in the House Freedom Caucus made that position clear in a statement on Thursday which read, "To secure the border, we must kill the rule."

"The House Freedom Caucus will vote NO on rule for the 'America Last' foreign wars supplemental package with zero border security, and urge all House Republicans to do the same," it declared.

Louisiana Republican Rep. Clay Higgins is a House Freedom Caucus member, and he voiced a similar message in a social media post the day before, saying that he is "sick of hearing about Ukraine being so needy."

Johnson: "My friends don't get it"

"Meanwhile, our own border is disintegrated and illegals are flooding in by the millions, and criminals are running wild through our streets," the lawmaker complained.

Fox News noted that Johnson expressed frustration to reporters on Wednesday evening, declaring, "We want the border to be part of every single thing we do here."

"We don’t have the votes. If you put Ukraine in any package, you can’t also do the border because I lose Republican votes on that rule. My friends don’t get it," he lamented.

This week's drama comes even as Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is threatening to challenge Johnson's leadership.

Greene says Johnson gave "Democrats everything they wanted"

The congresswoman laid out her arguments for why Johnson should go in a letter which she publicly released earlier this month.

Among her allegations are that "Mike Johnson worked with Chuck Schumer rather than with us, and gave Joe Biden and the Democrats everything they wanted."
