House Republicans have proposed a bill to block federal funding for migrants to live in national parks.

The legislation was introduced in the House by New York Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.

The purpose

“Turning our federal parks into encampments for unvetted migrants from all over the world is unfair to surrounding communities, and the taxpayers being forced to foot the bill while having their public spaces taken away,” read a statement from Malliotakis.

“I’ve joined local and federal colleagues to use every legal and legislative tool at our disposal, from lawsuits to this legislation, to stop the Biden, [New York Gov. Kathy] Hochul and [New York City Mayor Eric] Adams administrations from taking more open space from our citizens,” she added.

The problem

"The bill also would revoke the Biden administration’s lease, signed in September, with New York City to house illegal aliens at Floyd Bennett Field in the Gateway National Recreation Area in New York," the Daily Signal reported.

"While speaking on the House floor on Wednesday, Malliotakis placed blame at the feet of the Biden administration for needing to use federal lands to house illegal aliens," it continued.

Others on board

Texas House member Tony Gonzales also supports the bill, offering comments on X concerning the importance of the legislation.

"The latest Biden ploy is to turn our national parks into tent cities for migrants. Today, @HouseGOP passed legislation to prevent this from happening," he wrote.

"Our bill guarantees that public lands and national parks CANNOT be used to house migrants," he continued.

The party hopes to soon vote on the legislation to help push back against the Biden administration's border crisis.

The issue is only one part of the massive national security problems over the border that will serve as a major ballot issue for the elections next year for president and those running for other national offices.
