The conservative American Action Forum estimates that President Joe Biden's regulatory regime cost Americans nearly $2 trillion.

However, this week saw Congress pass a piece of legislation which would make repealing onerous regulations much easier.

Bill would allow Congress to review multiple federal regulations at once

That's according to the Daily Caller, which reported that the House of Representatives passed the Midnight Rules Relief Act by a vote of 212 to 208 on Wednesday.

First introduced last year by Arizona Republican Rep. Andy Biggs, the bill seeks to expand lawmakers' power under the Congressional Review Act (CRA).

The CRA provides Congress with a 60-day window in which to review and disallow regulatory rules promulgated by executive agencies.

However, the CRA stipulates that each regulation must be evaluated one at a time, something the Midnight Rules Relief Act would change.

Biggs: "The Midnight Rules Relief Act will allow Congress to clear the deck"

The Daily Caller noted that House Speaker Mike Johnson touted the legislation during a Tuesday press conference, saying its passage is "important for efficiency purposes."

"In the waning months of the Biden administration, there were 1400 unnecessary, harmful, last minute rules that were imposed," Johnson stressed

"Those are things that hurt small business owners and hardworking Americans and families," the Louisiana Republican went on to add.

Biggs sounded a similar note in a press release put out last month, declaring, "The Midnight Rules Relief Act will allow Congress to clear the deck of America Last rules and regulations imposed by the Biden-Harris regime and will prevent our economy from taking a $1.34 trillion hit."

Biggs followed those words up with a social media post on Tuesday, writing, "Joe Biden and his cronies implemented hundreds of new rules and regulations in the waning days of his Administration."

Lone Democratic representative joins with Republicans to pass bill

"I introduced H.R. 77, the Midnight Rules Relief Act, so Congress can efficiently clear the deck of Biden-Harris administrative tyranny," he added.

The Daily Caller pointed out that although the Midnight Rules Relief Act largely split lawmakers along partisan lines, Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar stood out by breaking from his Democratic colleagues to vote with Republicans.
