Jill Biden cost taxpayers $350,000 for intercontinental travel during Hunter's trial

Jill Biden was a steady presence at her stepson Hunter Biden's federal gun trial - and now taxpayers are going to have to pay for her expensive travel to and from the courthouse, including trans-Atlantic trips to France.

The Democratic National Committee will reimburse a small share of the roughly $345,000 cost, most of which will be borne by taxpayers, the Daily Mail reported.

Jill stiffs taxpayers...

All in all, Biden spent 24 hours in the air last week as she bounced back and forth from Delaware to France in a Boeing C-32.

The reimbursable rate for travel on the Boeing C-32 is $13,816 per hour. The National Taxpayers Union estimated the total cost of Biden's travel at $345,000, also including a short flight from Washington D.C. to Delaware.

The Democratic National Committee will reimburse the cost of four first-class tickets, Biden said, calling this in line with standard policy.

But a one-way first-class trip from Philadelphia to Paris costs $6,655, so the majority of Biden's travel costs - including the expense of transporting her large government entourage - will likely be covered by taxpayers.

Biden didn't say how much Democrats would pony up.

"In accordance with relevant regulations utilized across administrations, the government is reimbursed the value of a first-class fare for these flights to Wilmington and back to Paris," Jill Biden's office told DailyMail.com in a statement.

Not shocking for Biden family...

The First Lady's constant presence in the courtroom was notable given her high-profile political role as a campaign surrogate for her 81-year-old husband, who is battling for re-election in November.

Jill Biden attended the gun trial's opening before jetting to France to commemorate 80 years since the Allied invasion of Normandy with her husband, who was criticized for using the occasion to blast Donald Trump.

Jill Biden returned to Delaware for the last day of testimony, when Hunter's daughter Naomi testified in his defense. "Dr. Jill" was back in Paris next day, joining her husband at a state dinner with French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte.

Biden returned to the United States for the trial's conclusion but reportedly missed the guilty verdict being read.

In effect, taxpayers are bearing the cost of what is clearly - as the Democrats themselves acknowledge - Jill Biden's personal travel for a politically charged trial.

Then again, this is small potatoes compared to the flagrant influence peddling that "the Big Guy" and his family have engaged in over the years.

Personal business? Government business? It's all the same to the Bidens.
