Judges allow Jan. 6 protestors to return to the Capitol for Trump inauguration

Judges are allowing some of the individuals who participated in the Jan. 6 protests of 2021 to return to the U.S. Capitol for President-Elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

The New York Post reports that "Nearly two dozen people who faced criminal charges for their roles in the January 6 riots will be back in the Capitol."

This is a major reversal for not only Trump but also these individuals.

It also may be a sign of things to come from the Trump administration. There will be more on this in a moment.

The latest

A number of individuals whom the Biden administration has convicted for their roles in the events of Jan. 6, 2021, have asked various judges to allow them to attend Trump's inauguration. And, many of the individuals have gotten the okay.

The Post reports:

At least 20 defendants who have been charged or convicted of crimes stemming from the capitol riots have petitioned various judges for permission to attend — with at least 11 getting the green light, according to an review of records by the Associated Press.

This has come to the surprise of some. This is because, as the Post reports, "Typically criminal defendants are not allowed to return to the scene of their crimes while still under court supervision."

Biden administration prosecutors have been trying to stop these individuals from returning to the U.S. Capitol. In some cases, it has succeeded, but, in other cases, the "convicts" have gotten the green light.

It is unclear, at the time of the writing, whether these individuals who have gotten the green light will be able to attend the inauguration now that it has been moved indoors.

Are pardons forthcoming?

It is expected that Trump is going to pardon a large number of those who have been prosecuted by the Biden administration for their role in the events of Jan. 6, 2021.

This is because Trump himself has indicated as much on numerous occasions.

Just last month, for example - during an interview on NBC - Trump made his position clear.

He said:

I’m going to look at everything. We’ll look at individual cases. But I’m going to be acting very. First day, I'm looking first day. These people have been there — how long is it? Three, four years. They’ve been in there for years. And they’re in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn’t even be allowed to be open.

Trump, though, has been vague on the specifics, but we should know more once he is in the Oval Office.
