GOP candidate Kari Lake hasn't conceded Arizona Senate race despite media calling Dem opponent the winner
Republicans justifiably celebrated that they gained majority control of the Senate on Election Day, though the ultimate size of their new advantage still remains unclear.
The GOP aimed to flip control of a Senate seat in Arizona, and while some media outlets have called that race in favor of the Democratic candidate, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), Republican nominee Kari Lake has not yet conceded defeat, according to Newsweek.
Lake and her campaign have pointed to certain ballot counting irregularities and other odd circumstances, such as a top election official who was highly prejudiced against her, as reasons to keep fighting despite the reported results.
Media calls race for Gallego
On Monday, several media outlets called the Arizona Senate race in favor of Rep. Gallego over Lake, including the Associated Press, which explained why it made the call when it did.
In short, with about 95% of all ballots counted and only around 181,000 left to be tabulated, a majority of which come from Democrat-leaning Maricopa and Pima Counties, Lake was trailing by more than 70,000 votes and was unlikely to make up that deficit at the current rates by which the remaining ballots were breaking when counted.
Indeed, analysts determined that Lake would need to win around 70% of the remaining ballots from those two counties but was only garnering around 40% -- thus, it became clear that Gallego's 50-48% lead would most likely hold once all of the tabulations were completed.

Alleged irregularities and uncertainty
Yet, despite it becoming apparent even before Monday's call that Gallego would emerge victorious, the Lake campaign did not give up and instead spent the weekend making a strong push for voters to "cure" their absentee or mail-in ballots, or correct any minor mistakes that might render it uncountable, before a Sunday deadline in hopes that the margin between the two candidates would decrease, per Newsweek.
After that deadline came and went, Lake said in an X post, "Barring a last-minute legal intervention, the period for ballot curing has closed. Thank you to all of the grassroots patriots who worked so hard to ensure that every vote gets counted. I love you, Arizona.
The campaign has also called attention to various alleged irregularities during the tabulation process in certain counties, such as an inexplicable increase in the reported number of uncounted ballots in Pima and Yuma Counties on Friday, a discrepancy that would likely favor Gallego.
Lake and her team have also cried foul over the revealed bias against her of Maricopa's top elections official, Stephen Richer, which they assert may have illegally impacted the ballot counting process in that county, per the New York Post.
As part of a defamation lawsuit deposition earlier this year, a 2023 message from Richer to a friend was exposed that said in part that he wanted to "make life hell for Kari" in the 2024 election.
No concession yet
Meanwhile, in spite of the media calling the Arizona Senate race for Gallego, there appears to have been no formal concession from Lake just yet.
The closest the Lake campaign has come to almost admitting defeat was an X post on Monday that said, "Outspent 4 to 1; Given 100% negative coverage by the propaganda press; Abandoned by Senate Leadership Fund; Explicitly targeted by the people tasked with counting your (and her) votes; Never stops fighting; You're damn right we're proud of @KariLake.
