Lara Trump reveals President Trump was disappointed when she dropped out of Senate contention
For the most part, Lara Trump, daughter-in-law to President-elect Donald Trump, was a lock for taking over Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-FL) soon-to-be vacant Senate seat.
Needless to say, when she took her name out of the running for the seat last month, her fans, along with the president-elect himself, were shocked and somewhat disappointed.
According to the Daily Mail, Lara Trump recently opened up about President-elect Trump's reaction to the news that she was no longer seeking the seat, which will be filled by the choice of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
In an exclusive interview with the outlet, Lara Trump revealed her father-in-law's reaction to her bowing out of the race to fill the seat.
What did she say?
She explained to the outlet that she believes President-elect Trump, though he stayed neutral regarding Rubio's replacement, truly wanted his daughter-in-law to fill the seat with the hopes of running for it and securing it during the next election.
"[Trump] was a little upset whenever I said that, you know, 'I'm not gonna do it right now," Lara Trump told the Daily Mail.
She added, "The only person that Donald Trump wanted to see there was probably me."
Rubio's seat became available given he was chosen as President-elect Trump's Secretary of State. Aside from Donald Trump's endorsement, Lara Trump was overwhelming favored by millions of MAGA supporters to fill the upcoming vacancy to represent the state of Florida.
When she dropped the bombshell announcement last month regarding her exit from being considered, she didn't leave her fans completely hanging, as she teased a "big announcement" coming in January, though it remains unclear what that might be.
"You'll be seeing more of me not less of me... For some people, that's a great thing," she said at the time. "Some people might not like that."
Who will get it?
Lara Trump was asked about the seat and whether or not Mr. Trump has a preference now that she's out of the running. She admitted she hadn't spoken to him about that yet, but expressed confidence in the governor to choose the best replacement.
"I would say, as far as Governor Ron DeSantis is concerned, I believe he will choose a great person," she noted. "And I think the amazing thing is, he has really great names in terms of people who could potentially fill that seat."
Though DeSantis and President Trump ran a competitive and often contentious race in the primary season, Lara Trump praised the governor for how he runs the state.
"He's one of the reasons Eric and I moved our entire family to Florida, because we did a great job here and has done a great job as governor," she said.
