A Democratic U.S. senator is taking fire from his own side and some in the media after he was exposed over a brief moment of blunt honesty about his political party.

Leaked text messages from Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) revealed him trashing his fellow Democrats over their obsession with transgender issues and for being a party of unfun scolds, according to Breitbart.

The senator did not disavow the messages he'd previously sent to a friend, but did lament that the friend had leaked their private conversation to a conservative-leaning media outlet.

Democratic senator unloads on fellow Dems

On Tuesday, Jack Posobiec of Human Events shared on X a series of text messages between Sen. Gallego and an unnamed friend that involved the elected Democrat talking trash about the shortcomings of his leftist party.

The friend noted that he'd been "watching all the insanity up there I think it’s time that somebody with a cool head and a solid plan could rise to the top of your party."

"Oh man have you met my party?" Gallego replied, per the screenshots. "I have been yelling at them this whole time."

The friend then shared a meme featuring purple-haired Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) -- which was captioned, "If erectile dysfunction had a face" -- and wrote, "This is how the world views many of them," to which the senator responded, "They aren’t wrong!"

"Dem women look like Dem men and Dem men look like women"

According to the text messages posted by Posobiec, the unnamed friend encouraged Sen. Gallego to "flex" and "battle your way to the top" of the Democratic Party, and further joked, "I could become your Republican consultant."

That prompted a string of replies from the senator, in which he said, "We look like the not fun party. Always telling and correcting people."

Not allowing no men to [be] men," or for "women to be hot," he continued. "We used to be the party of se[x] drugs and rock and roll."

The source joked that he'd soon see the Democratic senator hanging out at the Republicans' private Capitol Hill Club so that he could "hang out with hot beautiful people," to which Gallego shot back, "Dem women look like Dem men and Dem men look like women."

No dispute or apology

Mediaite reported that a local Arizona reporter asked Sen. Gallego about the leaked text messages, the content of which he did not dispute, though he did express his disappointment that they'd been exposed by a friend he'd previously served with for 20 years.

"I don’t think the Democratic Party is as inclusive as it should be. That’s what I’m trying to point out," Gallego told the reporter. "We should be a party that takes everybody in … our tent is getting too small, and we need to actually expand the tent to more people."

As for his reaction to those texts being shared with a right-wing media outlet like Human Events by his right-leaning friend, the left-leaning senator said that he was "heartbroken" by the betrayal of trust.
