It has been almost a month since a would-be assassin opened fire on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

In addition to wounding Trump, the gunman also killed a rallygoer and hit two others. One of those victims managed to record chilling footage of the shooter.

Footage shows figure moving on rooftop

According to Fox News, James Copenhaver was among the crowd behind Trump when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks began shooting.

Before being twice and critically wounded, Copenhaver recorded a video in which someone can be seen on the roof of a building across from the former president.

Several minutes later, Copenhaver was shot twice, as was fellow attendee David Dutch. A third man, former Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department chief Corey Comperatore, was killed.

Victim hit in his arm and abdomen

Attorney Joseph Feldman represents Copenhaver, and he told Fox News that his client was wounded in his arm and abdominal area.

Feldman explained that Copenhaver "had almost seen or heard something whiz past him, which we're assuming was a bullet."

"He felt it on his arm, and he looked down at his arm…and felt pain initially, but he hadn't even realized he had been shot a second time at that point. It could have been shock," the attorney added.

What's more, Feldman went on to tell Fox News that the shooting victim is "sad" about the degree of "political division" which currently exists in the United States.

Copenhaver remains "unafraid to voice his support for Trump:

"Overall, he just wants people to understand how unnecessary it was and that the political divide in this country has become so great [that] people are literally willing to attend rallies where people are exercising their First Amendment rights and start firing bullets into crowds," Feldman stated.

"He's 74 years old," the attorney stressed. "He's been around a long time. He's witnessed a lot take place in this country."

"And this is definitely one of the worst things that he's experienced as an American, and he wants people to understand that it does not have to be like this," Feldman continued.

However, Feldman insisted that Copenhaver "is unafraid to voice his support for Trump, and he will not allow those who disagree with his views to silence him or prevent him from exercising his rights."

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
