House Republicans are speaking against an effort by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) to impeach President Joe Biden.

Boebert is seeking to push a vote for impeachment over the border crisis in a move many GOP leaders are calling "frivolous."

McCarthy's view

“I don’t think it’s the right thing to do,” McCarthy told reporters.

“This is one of the most serious things you can do as a member of Congress. I think you’ve got to go through the process. You’ve got to have the investigation,” McCarthy said. “And throwing something on the floor actually harms the investigation that we’re doing right now.”

Boebert's push

"On Twitter, the Colorado Republican wrote: 'BREAKING: I am bringing my articles of impeachment against Joe Biden to the House Floor in a privileged motion, meaning that every Member of Congress must vote on holding Joe Biden accountable.'”

"Boebert has argued that Biden continues to exhibit negligence concerning the U.S. border, thereby failing to ensure the safety of Americans against the influx of deadly fentanyl and criminal activities. Additionally, she has said that the president hasn’t been unsuccessful in alleviating the burden on the country’s immigration system," Conservative Brief added.

“Joe Biden unconstitutionally violated his duty under Article II of the Constitution to ‘take care that the laws be faithfully executed’ by intentionally disregarding our immigration laws and enabling an invasion along our southern border," Boebert said in her press release on the issue.

"Joe Biden is unable and unwilling to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States. To preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution, it is imperative that the House of Representatives impeach Joe Biden and hold him accountable for his egregious violations of his oath of office," she added.

Votes are not there

Despite Boebert's enthusiasm, Republicans understand that the votes are not there to accomplish the task.

Even with a slim majority in the House, the Senate would oppose the effort. The vote would also cause complications for any Republican who voted against the effort.

Many Americans would like to see a new president, but Boebert's effort appears more for show than a strategy to make it happen.
