Former first lady Melania Trump constantly generates headlines and probably always will.

There were recent rumors that should her husband, former President Donald Trump, be re-elected to the White House for another term, she might choose not to live with him in the White House this time.

Not surprisingly, Trump's critics attempted to make a mountain out of the story and parallel it with Melania's lack of public appearances both in court and on the presidential campaign trail.

However, the Daily Mail noted that her potential decision to not live in the White House isn't personal, and given her "fiercely" independent style, is not a surprise to those who know her, including her husband.

What's going on?

The outlet noted that Melania Trump has worked overtime to distance herself, overall, from the political scene. She has many reasons to do that, and many applaud her for taking that approach.

The Daily Mail dove in deeper to take a look at "their unconventional and deeply independent partnership."

The outlet noted:

Shortly after Trump was sworn into office in 2016, Melania gave an interview asserting her wish to stay out of the spotlight.

'I'm choosing not to go political in public because that is my husband's job,' she told Harper's Bazaar. 'I'm very political in my private life, and between me and my husband I know everything that is going on. I have my own mind. I am my own person, and I think my husband likes that about me.'

Melania Trump has said repeatedly that her main focus in on her son Barron Trump's protection and safety, and even chose to raise him without help from any nannie or outside help.

In 2015, she told PEOPLE, "I like to be hands-on. I think it's very important. He needs somebody as a parent there, so I am with him all the time. As you know, my husband is traveling all the time."

Normal relationship

Melania Trump made it clear that she's perfectly content with the relationship she has with her husband.

My life is very normal — for me. Maybe for some people they would not think that. But for me it is. I know my husband. We have a great relationship. We are both very independent. We know what our roles are and we are happy with them,' she said.

"I don't think you need to be with your husband every minute of every day," she added.

"Both people should do what their passion is and then get together in the mornings and evenings and share and experience life and have a great time. You know that saying, 'Work hard and play harder?' That's what we do," she added.

Donald Trump has promised that Melania Trump will soon join him on the campaign trail.
