Charges that former President Donald Trump had mishandled classified documents were dismissed earlier this year after Judge Aileen Cannon found that Special Counsel Jack Smith had been unlawfully appointed.

Yet the FBI raid that Smith ordered on Trump's home is still remembered by many Americans, including former First Lady Melania Trump.

Raid was "a reminder that our freedom and rights must be respected"

It is one of the topics which Mrs. Trump covered in a newly released memoir titled "Melania," and she shared a snippet from it on social media last month.

"I never imagined my privacy would be invaded by the government here in America," she declared. "The FBI raided my home in Florida and searched through my personal belongings."

"This is not just my story, it serves as a warning to all Americans, a reminder that our freedom and rights must be respected," Mrs. Trump continued.

Mrs. Trump described watching her husband get shot

The New York Post noted in an article published this week that the former first lady also recounted what it was like to find out her husband had nearly been assassinated.

Mrs. Trump explained that she was staying with her son Barron in Bedminster, New Jersey on July 13 when she learned of what had transpired.

"I rushed to the TV and pressed play. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing," the former first lady stated. "I watched the chaos unfold: the gunfire, Donald instinctively reaching up to his head."

"'He's on the ground. Are you sure he's OK?'" Mrs. Trump quoted herself as saying to her chief of staff. When the former president failed to answer his phone, she proceeded to call his Secret Service detail.

The former first lady said her husband was handed the phone "after what seemed like an eternity" and he assured her of his well-being.

Barron was impacted by assassination attempt

Mrs. Trump was not alone in being affected by the attempt on her husband's life, as she pointed out how her son was impacted as well.

"Can I explain how traumatic it is for a child to witness the attempted murder of his father? The relentless replay of the rally footage on the news only intensified our anxiety," she remarked.

"Each time we saw Donald's bloodied face, I had to remind myself that I had actually just spoken to him, heard his voice, and knew that he was safe," the former first lady added.
