NBC's Chuck Todd: Haley 'not campaigning to win'

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley might have experienced a boost or two following the first couple of GOP primary debates, but since then, her prospects seem to have dwindled.

Now that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has dropped out of the race and subsequently endorsed former President Donald Trump, all eyes are on Haley's next move.

While many have called for Haley to step out of the race, NBC News chief political analyst Chuck Todd made an interesting analysis of her campaign, according to Breitbart.

Todd accused Haley of "not campaigning to win" during a weekend airing of "Face the Nation."

What did he say?

Not long ago, Haley came within extremely close striking distance of Trump's numbers in New Hampshire, which wasn't a surprise given that the state tends to be more moderate than other early primary states.

Todd argued that Haley limited her opportunities in the state to make a last-minute case.

"Governor Haley made the decision to cancel any debates only if Donald Trump showed up. And  I understand the rational at the moment that she made that decision, but she really took away potential opportunities for her to make a last-minute case to these undeclared voters."

Todd added, "Look, this is the last best chance she has to create the conditions that maybe Trump is vulnerable."

The NBC host said he believes, based on her actions -- or lack thereof -- that it doesn't look like she's really even trying.

"He’s got to lose somewhere. This was the best possible place you can knock him down and so to not have these debates even if they were just with DeSantis, to miss out on these opportunities. I am shocked she is not trying to do every show that is available to her. She’s not campaigning to win. She seems to be campaigning to protect something and I don’t know what that is right now," Todd said.

Social media reacts

Social media users reacted to Todd's assessment.

"These sycophants still don’t get it, this isn’t Trump’s party, Republican Party or even a Conservative Party this is the People’s Party and Trump is the conduit strong enough to take back our country from the lunatics and globalist who have repeatedly undermined our freedoms," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Wasn’t media supposed to be non biased. Just report the news! They’re crying cause Haley isn’t doing better!
