Many Americans were shocked by the fatigue and confusion that President Joe Biden displayed during his first and only televised debate with President-elect Donald Trump.

However, a bombshell new report suggests that White House insiders became aware of Biden's decline shortly after he took office.

Source: Meeting had to be rescheduled due to Biden having "a bad day"

According to Fox News, those allegations were laid out in an article published by the Wall Street Journal earlier this week.

It was based on interviews that were carried out with nearly 50 individuals, including former and current White House staff members as well as Capitol Hill lawmakers.

One unnamed aide recalled speaking with a national security official who explained that a meeting scheduled early in Biden's term had to be put off as he was having trouble functioning.

"He has good days and bad days, and today was a bad day so we’re going to address this tomorrow," the national security official was quoted as saying.

Democratic congressman: "The Biden White House was more insulated than most"

Meanwhile, Washington Democratic Rep. Adam Smith told the Journal that the president seemed to have little outside interaction.

"The Biden White House was more insulated than most," Smith explained. "I spoke with Barack Obama on a number of occasions when he was president and I wasn’t even chairman of the committee."

Connecticut Democrat Rep. Jim Himes drew a similar contrast between Biden and the president he previously served under.

"I really had no personal contact with this president. I had more personal contact with Obama, which is sort of strange because I was a lot more junior," Himes acknowledged.

White House cites "indisputable proof" that Biden is fit to serve

Fox News noted how for its part, the White House provided a statement which pointed to "indisputable proof" that Biden is fit to perform his duties as commander in chief.

"President Biden speaks with members of his Cabinet daily, and with most members multiple times a week, staying in close touch with them about implementation of key laws and strengthening our national security," White House spokesman Andrew Bates asserted.

"During every presidency, there are inevitably some in Washington who do not receive as much time with whomever the president is as they would prefer," he declared.

"But that never means that the president isn’t engaging thoroughly with others, as this president does," Bates went on to maintain.
