Some Democrats, including longtime operative Julian Epstein, are not happy with the recent actions of New York Attorney General Letitia James (D). 

The Daily Caller reports that Epstein recently had some significant criticism of James.

This comes as James is appealing a recent appellate court ruling that threw out her legal victory against President Donald Trump. It also comes as James is facing her own legal problem, being accused of fraud by the federal government.

Background

One of the big news items recently was an appellate court decision that tossed James $500 million victory against Trump.

The Hill reports:

Judges on the state Appellate Division’s First Department issued a deeply fractured decision last month upholding the lower court’s determination that Trump and other defendants, including his eldest sons, conspired to alter his net worth for tax and insurance benefits. However, the midlevel court called the financial penalty Judge Arthur Engoron, the trial judge, imposed on Trump and his business “excessive.” A bench trial resulted in a $464 million judgment plus interest, which ballooned the total up to $527 million by the time the panel eliminated it.

Now, James is trying to appeal the ruling.

The outlet writes:

Her office filed a notice of appeal Thursday with New York’s highest court, signaling its intention to challenge a midlevel appeals court’s decision that wiped away the roughly $500 million penalty but otherwise affirmed the trial court.

We'll see what kind of success, if any, she has.

In the meantime...

Some Democrats are criticizing James for "doubling down" on what they see as a nonsensical legal case against Trump. Among them is Epstein, the longtime Democrat operative.

During a recent television appearance, he said:

It’s the same reaction that I’ve had with most of Letitia’s James’ antics and her pursuit of Trump. It’s doubling down on dumb. Epstein said. “[In] the case in the appeals court in New York in August, you had mostly liberal Democratic appointed judges who all said that the judgment was way out of whack, that it was an Eighth Amendment violation.

Epstein is using the fact that the court has liberal tendencies to show just how absurd James' case against Trump is, considering that this liberal court recently ruled in Trump's favor.

He continued:

The notion that you have half a billion-dollar fine when all of the affected parties in the case from Deutsche Bank on down said that there was no harm. This was an abusive prosecution. It was a political prosecution. The whole thing, in my view, should be thrown out. And she will not prevail.

There is little doubt that Trump would agree with Epstein on this one.
