Some sectors of the Democratic Party are working hard to rehab the party in the eyes of its supporters, and there's not a more popular person to do that than former President Barack Obama, who is still the most popular Democrat alive.

According to the Daily Beast, while Obama generally keeps somewhat of a distance from what's going on in politics today, he's reportedly been working overtime behind the scenes to boost certain up-and-coming Democrats that have a chance at undermining President Donald Trump.

Obama's attacks on Republicans and Trump have escalated this year, and many in the Dem Party have turned to the beloved, de facto leader of the party to lend his guidance to the next generation of Democratic leaders.

Not surprisingly, Obama is working with two controversial Democrats, including radical Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, and rising Dem star Texas Rep. James Talarico.

What's going on?

The outlet reported that Obama, on several occasions, has spoken with Mamdani. The move is risky, as many mainstream Democrats have kept some distance from Mamdani due to his radical, progressive politics that arguably lost the party the 2024 election.

The outlet noted:

Obama has also been fighting Republican redistricting, raising money, and speaking out against Republican efforts to “keep their grip on Congress,” and reportedly called Talarico to voice his support for the Texas Democrat.

Obama's efforts reportedly came in the wake of Trump directing Texas to go all in on redrawing its districts, which will likely give the Republican Party an edge in the influential state.

Obama has reportedly praised Talarico for his speaking abilities and his willingness to counter Republicans on the district redrawing efforts.

Talarico has made some interesting friends, and has even interviewed on Fox News. Right-leaning podcaster Joe Rogan has even praised the Texas Democrat, saying he should run for president because "We need someone who’s actually a good person."

Reportedly, Obama was impressed with Talarico's interview with Rogan, which sparked the former president to check him out futher.

Mamdani's rise

Mamdani, one of the most radical Democrats to run for office, has gained national popularity in his run for New York City mayor.

While many Democrats ran the other way when he spouted his policies, Obama gave him a call.

With Obama's blessing, even an unofficial one, Mamdani's chances at winning will clearly rise.

Obama has a golden touch much like Trump does with Republican candidates.
