PA election official defy state's Supreme Court
Election officials in Pennsylvania have disregarded their state's Supreme Court.
What's more, is that, according to Fox News, they are not even trying to hide the fact that they have done so.
This all has to do with the battle over one of the state's U.S. Senate seat.
In the 2024 elections, Democrat Bob Casey faced off against Dave McCormick. McCormick has emerged as the victor of the race, but Casey and the Democrats have been challenging the results.
Background
As stated, the Associated Press has called the race for McCormick. The current results can be found here.
Currently, McCormick has a 48.8% to 48.6% lead on Casey. The actual vote tally differs by less than 20,000 votes. This is a long-winded way of pointing out that it was indeed a close contest.
Despite the fact that the race has been called, Casey has refused to concede. He, instead, has insisted that "every vote" be counted before he does so.
In Pennsylvania, if the margin of victory in an election is less than one percentage point, then an automatic recall is triggered. This is exactly what is happening here, and this is where the problem has arisen.
Many are arguing that some of the state's election officials are counting ballots which they ought not to be counting.
The latest
Not too long ago, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania issued a ruling stating that, in the 2024 elections, provisional ballots missing a signature ought not to be counted. This, however, appears to be exactly what election officials in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, are doing.
Breitbart News reports:
Bucks County Board of Commissioners Chair Robert J. Harvie Jr. (D) and Vice Chair Diane Ellis-Marseglia (D) decided to count provisional ballots that were missing a signature in one of two places, which officials call “block two” and “block four.” The third commissioner, Gene DiGirolamo (R), was the lone dissenting voice to oppose the Democrats’ challenge to count the ballots.
Fox reports that these election officials are not even hiding the fact that they are doing so.
"As the contested Pennsylvania Senate race barrels towards a $1 million recount, Democratic officials in a few blue counties are openly admitting to counting disqualified ballots in defiance of state law and court orders," the outlet reports.
The big question now is how exactly this is all going to play out. The answer, at this point, is unclear, but there appears to be a high likelihood that the courts will have to get involved.
