Records show John Fetterman has missed 21% of Senate roll call votes

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman is unique among Capitol Hill Democrats for having a relatively cordial relationship with President Donald Trump.

Yet that isn't the only thing Fetterman is known for, as records show he has missed more votes than any of his colleagues.

Fetterman has missed 21% of roll call votes

That's according to Zeteo, which recently cited a report published by GovTrack, a nonpartisan website that tracks the votes of lawmakers.

"From Feb 2023 to Feb 2025, Fetterman missed 162 of 773 roll call votes, which is 21.0%. This is much worse than the median of 2.5% among the lifetime records of senators currently serving," GovTrack stated.

When asked for comment about his attendance record, the 55-year-old senator was quoted as saying, "I'm devastated by your inquiries."

Zeteo isn't the only online publication to take notice of Fetterman's time away from Washington, as The Hill also did so in an article put out two years ago.

Senator has struggled with health problems

The Hill reported that much of Fetterman's absenteeism is attributable to his well publicized health struggles, such as when he sought inpatient treatment for clinical depression at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

What's more, Fetterman suffered from a stroke during his 2022 campaign, something which continued to impact his performance for months afterwards.

Frequent absences by Fetterman and the late California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein hindered the Senate Judiciary Committee's ability to confirm then President Joe Biden's nominees.

"Does it create challenges? It absolutely does. Does it slow the process down? Sometimes," New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker told The Hill.

"But we’re all human beings and these are the times you have to take those things into account and give as much leniency as you can," Booker continued before adding, "It happens on both sides of the aisle."

Fetterman denied that Trump has created a "constitutional crisis"

More recently, Fetterman frustrated other members of his party when he dismissed claims that President Trump's executive orders had caused a "constitutional crisis."

"When it was [President] Joe Biden, then you [had] a conservative judge jam it up on him, and now we have liberal judges that are going to stop these things. That’s how the process works," Fox News quoted Fetterman as telling HuffPost.

"There isn’t a constitutional crisis, and all of these things — it’s just a lot of noise," the senator continued before explaining that he is "only going to swing on the strikes."
