Report: White House seeking 'to bolster' vice president's image ahead of 2024 election

President Joe Biden has long been plagued by negative polls, with the website FiveThirtyEight putting his aggregate approval rating at just 41.5%.

While the figure isn't inspiring, Vice President Kamala Harris' numbers are a disaster. That has the White House struggling to boost her popularity ahead of 2024.

"Concerted effort to bolster Harris’s image"

According to Washington Post correspondent Cleve R. Wootson Jr., the Biden administration is making "a concerted effort to bolster Harris’s image."

In an article published on Sunday, Wootson cited "people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity" as saying that White House strategist Anita Dunn is taking steps to raise the vice president's profile

This includes having "the White House public engagement and political teams to help schedule events with Harris, having her promote popular causes like abortion rights and infrastructure spending."

What's more, Wootson pointed out that the vice president can be seen more than a dozen times in Biden's campaign launch video.

Biden turned 80 this past November

While vice presidential candidates rarely play a major role when voters are deciding who to support, Wootson noted that there are factors that make Harris' situation unique.

Chief among them is the fact that Joe Biden turned just 80 this past November and will be 86 at the end of his second term should he be re-elected.

This, along with growing concerns over the president's overall health and cognitive abilities increases the possibility that Harris will at some point need to assume his role.

Nikki Haley says Harris is among "the most incompetent elected officials"

One person who has seized on that theme is Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

"I think that we can all be very clear and say with a matter of fact that if you vote for Joe Biden you really are counting on a President Harris, because the idea that he would make it until 86 years old is not something that I think is likely," Wootson quoted Haley as telling Fox News.

Haley tore into Harris in an op-ed published earlier this month by Fox News, writing that "Americans must consider the actual competency of the vice president."

"Kamala Harris is one of the most incompetent elected officials in the country," Haley complained, adding, "Her failures in foreign policy and managing the border are too numerous to mention – to say nothing of the word salad that defines her unscripted remarks."
