A top Republican is expressing outrage at Secret Service after Sunday's assassination attempt on President Trump.

The nation has yet to get clear answers on a previous assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman bloodied Trump from 130 yards away.

Another maniac tried to kill Trump Sunday afternoon, at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

58-year-old suspect Ryan Routh came within 300 to 500 yards of Trump while he was playing golf.

Secret Service failure...

Routh was discovered when Trump's security detail noticed the barrel of a gun poking through the bushes. Agents opened fire and Routh fled the scene without pulling the trigger.

He left behind his AK-47-style rifle and a GoPro camera that he intended to use to record the murder.

In the aftermath of the attempted shooting, House Republican Tim Burchett (TN) who sits on the Oversight Committee, blasted the Secret Service over Trump's continued vulnerability.

"The problem is you've got a Secret Service, at least in my opinion, and in the public's eye, that is compromised and that it lacks in leadership. And you've got great agents on the ground, obviously, one who took that shot. But why in the world would anybody be anywhere near the perimeter of this?" he asked.

Burchett said the Biden administration won't provide answers, but hopefully, "under the Trump administration, we’ll clean this rat's nest out."

Trump responds

Prosecutors said Monday that Routh had camped outside the perimeter of Trump's golf course around 2 a.m. Sunday, 12 hours before agents saw him.

In a post on X, President Trump thanked the Secret Service and local police for an "outstanding" job intercepting the shooter.

Routh is a strong supporter of Ukraine who hates Trump. In social media posts, Routh echoed the Democratic party's claims that Trump is a threat to democracy.

The Secret Service's current director Ronald Rowe praised agents for their response Sunday, saying Routh never had Trump in his sights and did not fire his weapon.
