The FBI admits Trump was shot afer Wray raises doubts
The FBI has admitted that Donald Trump was struck by a bullet, confirming what everybody knew already before the scandal-plagued agency's own director muddied the waters.
Many were taken aback to see FBI director Christopher Wray feed conspiracy theories about the shooting during a congressional hearing last week.
"I think with respect to former President Trump, there's some question about whether or not it's a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear," Wray said.
FBI backtracks on bullet
The comment angered Trump, who has butt heads with the FBI ever since the agency spied on his 2016 campaign.
"No, it was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard. There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called it a 'bullet wound to the ear,' and that is what it was. No wonder the once storied FBI has lost the confidence of America!" Trump wrote in a social media post.
Some on the left regretted that the shooter missed and even cast doubt on whether the shooting really happened.
Wray admitted to Congress that someone affiliated with the FBI was under investigation for making "outrageous" comments about the shooting.
Two days after Wray's testimony, the FBI backtracked on his bullet comments.
“What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject’s rifle,” the agency said in a statement.
Partisan FBI feeds conspiracies
Wray knows the weight his words carry. He said so himself when he was asked if comparisons between Trump and Hitler might incite violence. Wray refused to speculate, saying it was outside of his lane.
Yet, Wray didn't hold back from questioning an assassination attempt against a U.S. president - who narrowly escaped death by a quarter of an inch.
Trump's former White House doctor, now Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), who treated his bullet wound, said the bullet "produced a 2 cm wide wound that extended down to the cartilaginous surface of the ear.”
"It was a bullet wound,” Jackson said about Wray's comment. "You can’t make statements like that. It leads to all these conspiracy theories."
During the same hearing, Wray also described his interactions with Joe Biden as "uneventful" despite Biden's evident cognitive decline.
It's no wonder that so many think the FBI is partisan.
