Trump charges Gov. Newsom with attempting to 'Trump-proof' California

President-Elect Donald Trump just hit back at California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), following Newsom's promise to oppose Trump's incoming administration.

Trump did so in a message that he posted to his Truth Social account. The message can be viewed in its entirety here.

This all comes after Trump's massive victory in the 2024 presidential election.

It was not long after this victory that Newsom came out with a public statement vowing to oppose Trump's administration. Since then, many other Democratic governors have followed suit.

"We won't sit idle"

Politico reports that Newsom "is calling a special session of the Legislature to shore up the state’s legal defenses against President-elect Donald Trump."

The outlet added, "Newsom said Trump’s campaign statements and first-term policies on abortion, electric vehicles, immigration and disaster aid warranted immediate legislative powers ahead of lawmakers’ planned return to Sacramento."

Newsom, in his statement, did some fearmongering, claiming that Trump is coming for the freedoms of the California people.

"The freedoms we hold dear in California are under attack — and we won’t sit idle," he said.

Politico notes that California, under Newsom's leadership, also led the fight against Trump's first administration, "filing more than 120 lawsuits challenging the administration over its actions on air pollution, immigration, gun control, health care, union dues and other areas."

Trump responds

Suffice it to say that Trump was not to happy about what Newsom had to say.

In a social media message, Trump wrote:

Governor Gavin Newscum is trying to KILL our Nation’s beautiful California. For the first time ever, more people are leaving than are coming in. He is using the term “Trump-Proof” as a way of stopping all of the GREAT things that can be done to “Make California Great Again,” but I just overwhelmingly won the Election.

Trump continued by writing:

People are being forced to leave due to [Newsom's], & other’s, INSANE POLICY DECISIONS, like the ridiculously rerouting of MILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER A DAY FROM THE NORTH OUT INTO THE PACIFIC OCEAN, rather than using it, free of charge, for the towns, cities, & farms dotted all throughout California. They are making it impossible to build a reasonably priced car, the unchecked and unbalanced homeless catastrophe, & the cost of EVERYTHING, in particular “groceries,” IS OUT OF CONTROL.

Trump concluded by making it clear that he does not intend to "sit idly by" either.

He said, "Also, as an 'AGENT' for the United States of America on Voting & Elections, I will be DEMANDING THAT VOTER I.D., AND PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP, ARE A NECESSARY PART AND COMPONENT OF THE VOTING PROCESS!"
