Trump declassifies Amelia Earhart records
President Donald Trump is declassifying records related to aviator Amelia Earhart.
Trump announced the move on social media last week.
Earhart, of course, is the female pilot who, in 1937, disappeared under mysterious circumstances during a flight over the Pacific Ocean.

"I am ordering..."
Trump, on Friday, released a social media message indicating that he has decided to declassify all records that the government has on Earhart.
The president wrote:
I have been asked by many people about the life and times of Amelia Earhart, such an interesting story, and would I consider declassifying and releasing everything about her, in particular, her last, fatal flight! She was an Aviation Pioneer, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and achieved many other Aviation “firsts.”
Trump went on to recall her mysterious disappearance.
He continued:
She disappeared in the South Pacific while trying to become the first woman to fly around the World. Amelia made it almost three quarters around the World before she suddenly, and without notice, vanished, never to be seen again. Her disappearance, almost 90 years ago, has captivated millions. I am ordering my Administration to declassify and release all Government Records related to Amelia Earhart, her final trip, and everything else about her.
"Thank you for your attention to this matter!" the president concluded.
Will we finally get answers?
The answer is probably "no."
Fox News notes how "Researchers have long searched for answers about Earhart's 1937 disappearance over the Pacific Ocean during her fateful attempt to fly around the globe," adding, "The disappearance has been the subject of many conspiracy theories."
The effort to have the files declassified has been led by Republican Northern Mariana Islands Delegate Kimberlyn King-Hinds, a non-voting member of the House of Representatives.
The Daily Caller quotes King-Hinds as writing:
Should such records exist, their release would contribute meaningfully to our understanding of one of America’s most revered aviators and could finally shed light on the final chapter of her remarkable life. I believe the story of Amelia Earhart, and the Pacific’s possible role in it, deserves the same level of openness and commitment to the truth that you have championed in other areas.
We'll have to see if the files contain any information that the public does not already know.
