Trump: Harris campaign's media strategy was 'big tactical mistake'

While the election might be over, the rift between Republicans and Democrats is far from ending, as the two wings of American politics push government forward, still locked in conflict.

That was made clear to everyone when, after being named Time Magazine's "Person of the Year," President-elect Donald Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign tactics in an interview, as Fox News reported.

Trump cited Harris' media technique as one of her worst blunders when the magazine asked him about it.

"I think that when she wouldn't talk to anybody, it shone a light on her. In other words, if she would have gone out and just did interviews," Trump began.

More From Trump

The former, and once again elected, the president went on, bridging to the lack of action on the part of his former opponent, saying, "She didn't do anything. And people said, Is there something wrong with her? Why would they?"

"I mean, I'm doing this interview with you. I did interviews with, if I had the time, anybody that would ask, I'd do interviews. I think the Joe Rogan interview, you know, that went on for almost three and a half hours."

The Trump campaign rejected reports that it had ever officially agreed to have Trump appear on "60 Minutes" following CBS News' claims that he had declined the offer. This came before the election.

In the aftermath of Joe Biden's announcement that he was stepping down as Democratic presidential nominee, Harris remained silent for more than a month before sitting down for an interview.

On the Campaign Trail

Following her initial joint sit-down with her running companion, Gov. Tim Walz, she increased the frequency of her traditional media appearances and podcast interviews towards the end of August.

"But it's an interesting question when you ask about her. I think they made a big tactical mistake by literally not talking to the press, even if a really friendly, I mean, and they had almost all friendly, somebody would come up with a really friendly—like you guys, maybe—but a friendly interview, and they turned everybody down. They wouldn't do the basic. And people, including me, would start to say, is there something wrong with her? What's wrong? Why wouldn't you do some basic interviews?" the president-elect said.

Donald Trump told Time Magazine that Harris's unsuccessful interviews wouldn't have garnered as much attention if she had done others that did outline her political positions, particularly those that differed from her running mate.

"In other words, if she did those same interviews, but she did another 15 interviews, you know, you wouldn't have really noticed it that much," he said. "She put so much emphasis on interviews. Somebody thought there was something wrong, and I don’t think she ever recovered from that," he added.

Interviews Granted

Podcasts and other alternative media outlets were important to the campaigns of both Trump and Harris. Notably, Harris spoke with Alex Cooper of the "Call her Daddy" podcast.

The "narrative" that Harris was not giving interviews was frustrating to her top campaign staff.
