Trump is winning support from another unexpected demographic

Former President Donald Trump is now gaining support among Muslim-Americans.

According to the New York Postthis was revealed by a recent poll.

The poll comes from the Rainey Center, which, according to the outlet, is "a self-described 'post-partisan' public policy research nonprofit.

The poll was conducted between Aug. 23 and Aug. 29, 2024. The pollster surveyed some 600 self-identified Muslim respondents via web panels. The margin of error is reported to be plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.

Here are the results:

The big finding is not necessarily the percentage of Muslim Americans who support Trump. Rather, it is the percentage increase of Muslim Americans who support Trump.

This latest poll from the Rainy Center found that, if the 2024 presidential election were to be held today, Trump would be expected to get about 30% of the vote. On the other hand, the pollster found that Harris would get around 62% of the vote.

This, of course, looks like a clear loss for Trump. But, it is not, for a couple of reasons - the obvious one being that more than just Muslim Americans will vote in the 2024 presidential election.

But, the bigger reason why this is not a loss for Trump is that Trump used to get a smaller amount of support from the Muslim American community.

The Post reports that, in the 2020 presidential election, for example, Trump only earned 23% of the Muslim American vote. In other words, today, Trump seems to be up seven percentage points on that 2020 result.

Are we in for a historic election?

We just might be. Several polls have shown that Trump has gained significant ground with voter Demographics that Republicans historically have struggled with.

There is no demographic that the Republicans have struggled with more than the Black voter demographic. And, some polls have suggested that Trump, in the 2024 presidential election, could get unprecedented support from the Black community.

A few months ago, a CNN poll, for example, "showed Trump's support among Black voters more than doubled to 22% compared to 2020."

Between then and now, of course, President Joe Biden was replaced by Vice President Kamala Harris, and some polls have claimed that this change has essentially wiped out Trump's gain with the Black community.

Time will tell if this is indeed the case. All we can say for right now is that there have been signs that Trump could get some surprise results in the upcoming election, especially from unexpected Demographics.
