Trump proposes 'denuclearization' with Russia and China
Donald Trump has only been in office for two weeks, but it seems like he's done for America (and the world) in that time than Joe Biden did during his entire four years in office.
According to Fox News, one of the most interesting things Donald Trump has proposed during his young second term is the idea of "denuclearization" talks with America's adversaries.
Trump wants to achieve world peace, so he's tired of countries like the United States, Russia, and China wasting billions of taxpayer dollars in a nuclear arms race.
Trump's comments
Donald Trump made his recent markets to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
"Tremendous amounts of money are being spent on nuclear, and the destructive capacity is something we don’t even want to talk about today, because you don’t want to hear it," Donald Trump said.
"I want to see if we can denuclearize, and I think it’s very possible," he continued, suggesting Russia, China, and the United States should sit down and talk about the issue.
It's an amazing idea in theory. I'm sure many Americans would love the peace of mind and the tax dollar savings that would come from not being on the brink of nuclear disaster. However, even if America was able to hold up our end of the bargain, one massive question would remain:
Would America's adversaries hold up their end of the deal?
Denuclearization would represent a tremendous step forward in the diplomatic relations between America, Russia, and China, but those countries are considered our adversaries for a reason.
Russia and China have very little interest in doing what's best for the people of America. In fact, those countries have very little interest in doing what's best for the people in their own countries.
The governments of Russia and China are mostly looking out for the governments of Russia and China.
We already know that Vladimir Putin might have a bit of trouble upholding his end of a denuclearization deal.
According to Fox:
President Vladimir Putin announced Russia would suspend its participation in the New START treaty in 2023 over U.S. support for Ukraine. Russia had frequently been caught violating the terms of the deal. But China has never engaged in negotiations with the U.S. over arms reduction.
Would it work?
Still, Donald Trump thinks he could convince Putin to denuclearize. He recently claimed to Sean Hannity that he was close to getting it done during his first term from 2017 to 2021.
"I was dealing with Putin about the denuclearization of Russia and the United States. And then we were going to bring China along on that one. I was very close to having a deal. I would have made a deal with Putin on that denuclearization. It's very dangerous and very expensive, and that would have been great, but we had a bad election that interrupted us," Trump said.
What do you think? Would you like the savings that would come with America not pouring countless dollars into nuclear programs? Or do we need to keep up with the countries we can't trust?
