Hunter Biden has had a myriad of legal problems this year, including being convicted of gun crimes and pleading guilty to federal tax offenses. However, he could receive help from an unlikely source.

The week saw former President Donald Trump suggest that he might be open to pardoning his rival's son.

Trump would consider issuing a pardon "despite what they've done to me"

According to Breitbart, Trump made that statement while participating in an interview on Thursday with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

When asked by Hewitt if he would consider extended clemency to the younger Biden, Trump responded that he "wouldn't take it off the books despite what they've done to me."

"Hunter's a bad boy. There’s no question about it. He’s been a bad boy. "All you had to do is see the laptop from hell," the former president acknowledged before stating, "But I happen to think it's very bad for our country."

Trump noted that he "could have gotten Hillary Clinton very easily" yet opted not to. He then added, "What I didn't know is that they were going to play dirty with me. Who thinks that?"

White House has not addressed whether Harris would issue a pardon

Meanwhile, The issue of whether Vice President Kamala Harris would pardon Hunter Biden was put to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a briefing in August.

"You said from the podium that President Biden would not pardon his son," a reporter pointed out before asking, "If Vice President Harris is elected, would he tell her also to not pardon his son?"

"That’s a hypothetical," the press secretary replied. "He said he would not pardon his son, and I’m just going to leave it there."

Ted Cruz says Joe Biden will pardon Hunter following the election

Meanwhile, some conservatives believe that Trump won't have to decide whether or not to pardon Hunter Biden as his father will do so before leaving office.

One of them is Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, who made the prediction in July during an episode of his "Verdict with Ted Cruz" podcast.

"I'm going to place the odds that Joe Biden pardons Hunter Biden at 100%. Hunter Biden will get a pardon as a result of this decision," Fox News quoted Cruz as saying.

"It will not happen till after Election Day. He's not going to do it before Election Day. But he's going to stick around. And after Election Day, I believe it is now 100% that Joe Biden will pardon Hunter," the senator went on to add.
