It doesn't seem to matter much at all that former President Donald Trump faces multiple indictments and a mountain of legal battles.

According to the Washington Examiner, during this cycle's Lincoln Day Dinner, held on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump demonstrated exactly why he continues to lead the pack of GOP hopefuls.

The event, known as the first "cattle call" of the presidential election cycle, allowed Trump 10 minutes to push his "Agenda 47" policy vision and assure Iowa voters, and the rest of America, that he has big plans for the White House should he win next year.

The event showcased the current slate of Republican candidates, and allowed them all a short time to put forth their best sales pitch.

What did Trump say?

The former president reminded the fundraiser attendees that he already sports an impressive track record in the White House, and doubled down on his vow to get rid of the "Deep State," fix the southern border crisis, and improve other aspects of Americans' lives that President Joe Biden has ruined.

Trump stressed that his current legal issues became a reality only because he's Biden's most formidable threat in 2024.

"If I weren't running, I would have nobody coming after me, or, if I was losing by a lot, I would have nobody coming after me," he told the ballroom. "They wouldn't be coming after me."

Trump added, "The 2024 election is our last shot to save America, and there’s only one candidate, and you know who that candidate is."

Trump also stressed that he would immediately tackle the immigration issue at the southern U.S. border by reversing essentially everything Biden has done to make it worse.

Social media reacts

The former president found plenty of support for his 2024 White House vision among supporters on social media. Some also noted that his speech sounded "low energy," compared to what he usually puts on, but that could have been due to the strict time limit.

"TRUMP defeated and humiliated puny ISIS Mohammedans, created powerful Space Force, and virtuously started no new wars for first time in decades. Fact check: True," one X user wrote.

One critic wrote, "Awful speech. Billy Bass could have given that with more energy."

Overall, Trump received high grades for his 10-minute power speech, and that will likely be reflected in the polls in the coming days.
