Trump selects co-chair for inaugural committee
President-Elect Donald Trump has picked two individuals to lead his inaugural committee.
The two individuals, according to the Associated Press, are Kelly Loeffler and Steven Witkoff.
For those unfamiliar with these two individuals, Witkoff is a Florida real estate investor. KSN also reports that "Witkoff is the president-elect’s golf partner who was with Trump when the former president was the target of a second attempted assassination at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida in September."
Loeffler, on the other hand, is the former senator from Georgia.
Trump's announcement
Trump announced his selection of Witkoff and Loeffler in a press statement that he released on Saturday.
Trump wrote:
On Election Night, we made history, and I have the extraordinary honor of having been elected the 47th President of the United States thanks to tens [of] millions of hardworking Americans across the nation who supported our America First agenda. The Trump Vance Inaugural Committee will honor this magnificent victory in a celebration of the American People and our nation.
The inauguration committee, according to the Washington Examiner, "is in charge of the presidential inaugural ceremony and activities connected with the ceremony."
Trump, in his statement, added:
This will be the kick-off to my administration, which will deliver on bold promises to Make America Great Again. Together, we will celebrate this moment, steeped on history and tradition, and then get to work to achieve the most incredible future for our people, restoring strength, success, and common sense to the Oval Office.
It is expected to be a massive celebration.
Loeffler is "excited"
Loeffler has responded to Trump's statement, selecting her to be part of the inauguration committee, with a statement of her own, expressing her excitement at being selected by Trump to participate.
"Excited to accept this tremendous honor alongside @SteveWitkoff. We look forward to delivering a very special celebration that honors the American people, the promise of our nation, and President Trump’s triumphant return to the White House," Loeffler wrote on her X account.
She added, "The inauguration will herald the start of the great American comeback - and a new golden era for our nation!"
The Examiner notes that Trump had other people run his inauguration committee in 2016.
"Trump's longtime friend, billionaire Tom Barrack, chaired his inauguration committee in 2016, while megadonors Sheldon Adelson and Miriam Adelson and New York Jets owner Woody Johnson were among the vice chairs," the outlet reports.
