Trump sends National Guard troops to Portland despite court order
Portland ICE has been the scene of violent unrest in recent days, with one journalist being beaten while another was threatened with murder.
President Donald Trump has responded by sending hundreds of National Guard troops in defiance of a federal court order.
Gavin Newsom: "We are taking this fight back to court"
That's according to the New York Post, which noted how the 300 soldiers in question are being dispatched from neighboring California, a fact which sparked outrage from the state's governor.
"After a federal court blocked his attempt to federalize the Oregon National Guard, Donald Trump is deploying 300 California National Guard personnel into Oregon. They are on their way there now," California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom wrote in a social media post.

The public cannot stay silent in the face…

"We are taking this fight back to court," Newsom continued before adding, "The public cannot stay silent in the face of such reckless and authoritarian conduct by the President of the United States."
Texas National Guard troops being sent to Chicago
Oregon isn't the only place where Trump is sending troops, as the Post also reported that an additional 400 Texas National Guard soldiers are being sent to other states, including Illinois.
That move brought a furious response from Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker, who lashed out with a social media post of his own on Sunday.
In it, the governor slammed what he referred to as "Trump’s Invasion" and demanded that "every American to speak up and help stop this madness."
"It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will not involve sending in another state’s military troops," Pritzker declared.
Chicago mayor signs executive order creating "ICE-free zones"
Meanwhile, Mediaite noted how on Monday, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order establishing "ICE-free zones."
The order bars ICE agents from making use of "city-owned or controlled parking lots, vacant lots, and garages as staging areas, processing locations, or operations bases."
"We have a rogue, reckless group of heavily armed, masked individuals roaming throughout our city that are not accountable to the people of Chicago," Johnson said at a press conference.
The mayor of America's third largest city went on to assert that "[i]f Congress won’t check this administration, then Chicago will."
